Šabala has signed a contract with Viitorul until the end of this season with the possibility to extend it for another two years. The choice of concluding a new agreement with a Latvian footballer after the season will belong to the club. The attacker himself is very satisfied with his move to Romania.
"It was very important to me that the coach [Mirča Redniks] wanted to see me at this club. He said that he was very much counting on me and wanted me to start playing as soon as possible," but this is because it was still considered the first round game of the Romanian championship. The striker is likely to make his debut as part of his new team on Friday, when Viitorul will compete with Arad UTA. "Yes, of course I think this is a step up for me. There is a competitive championship in Romania. It's a pretty good level here."
An agreement with "Viitorul" club was reached on a significant date - December 31. There was also interest from other teams, but without specific offers. The striker has not yet met the Romanian football legend Georgi Haji, who owns this club.
"There is a very high level of organization here, including a training base and a stadium. There are a lot of training grounds with both natural and artificial coverings.
The previous club of the Latvian striker was Marijampole "Sūduva" from Lithuania, where he scored four goals in 13 games. There is currently in a lot of confusion around this unit, so Šabala has decided to look for a new job.
"A new coach recently came there. The president wants to sell the club. After the season I talked to them, but there was no offer. At the moment, there is uncertainty in the whole club, because it is not known what will happen. "Some good players have left. If everything remained at the level of the previous year, I would have like to stay there. I was satisfied with everything."
"Sūduva" lost at the end of the season in both decisive games - the cup final and the championship gold game. Šabala points out that the unit was greatly influenced by Covid-19, which affected almost all the team's football players at the end of the season.
"Žalgiris is a very good team, but we didn't play too well in the last matches. We lost points in the last rounds. Everything was in our own hands. The golden match was very much influenced by the fact that almost the whole team had Covid-19 before. "Only about five or six days. It was very difficult physically. Only four players from the whole team did not get the virus," said Shabala. "I also got sick. I had a slightly high temperature for about three days, the taste and smell disappeared. I got sick for seven or eight days. I lost my physical strength, because we had to sit at home for ten days, only then we could train. be in self-isolation for ten days. "
"If it weren't for Covid-19, I think the chances of defeating Žalgiris would be higher. Of course, it's also a strong team, but in the fight against them it would be physically easier if we weren't sick," said Sabala, who revealed that compared with Lithuania, in Romania his salary is just slightly higher.
In the Latvian national team, Šabala has played 53 games and scored 12 goals, which is the eighth best indicator in the history of the national team. The attacker has not played in the national team since September 2019.
"Whether I stay in this club will depend only on me. I will work to stay here, because here are all the necessary conditions to play only football. Good city, good club with good infrastructure. In the new year I have set a goal to strengthen in the new club - to play, Of course, I would not abandon the idea of returning to the national team, "Šabala revealed that there has been no communication with Dainis Kazakevičs since the appointment of a specialist as the head coach of the Latvian national team.
