SRS asks to prosecute a person for the payment of "envelope" salaries in a football club and tax evasion

In July 2022, the Tax and Customs Police Department of the State Revenue Service (SRS) sent criminal proceedings to the Prosecutor's Office of the Kurzeme Judicial District for the initiation of criminal prosecution against one person for the payment of salaries in the amount of EUR 144 410 and tax evasion in the amount of EUR 118 033 not shown in the accounting records.
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that an official of the football club, during the period from January 2018 to August 2020, did not list wages in full in the accounting records, and unaccounted and uncalculated salary of 144,410 euros was unofficially paid to the club's players in cash, as well as avoided paying taxes in the amount of 118,033 euros.

In the South Latgale Prosecutor's Office, when drawing up the prosecutor's injunction on punishment, criminal proceedings against a person who paid a significant amount of remuneration not shown in the accounting records have been completed, the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Latvia informs.
The accused, being a member of the board of directors of a football club and effectively managing the economic activities of that association, paid two football players money not accounted for in the accounts in the total amount of EUR 9170 for the fact that they performed their duties by playing football for a particular football club team.
Given the nature of the crime committed and the fact that the accused committed a less serious crime in the economy, pleaded guilty to the crime he was guilty of the crime, repented of what he had committed, as well as the identity of the accused – having previously been tried, but his criminal record erased – it was convinced that he should not be subject to a custodial sentence.
With the prosecutor's sentencing ordinance, the accused was fined €5000 and deprived of the right to hold the position of board member and chairman of the board of directors of companies related to sports activities and the organization of sporting events for one year.
