Barnsley Football Club can confirm the signing of Tomas Kalinauskas following a successful trial period.

The Lithuanian forward joins on a one-year deal and will link up with our U23s squad ahead of the upcoming Professional Development League campaign.

“I’m delighted to be signing with Barnsley,” said the 21-year-old. “It’s been a really long road getting to this point and obviously this is only the first step but to put pen to paper on a deal with a massive club like Barnsley is brilliant. I’m just really looking forward to the season getting underway so I can get my head down and work on putting in the best possible performances for the team and try push to get in and around the first team as soon as possible.

“I’ve been at Conquest Football Academy since I was 14-years old-and they helped me all the way through to this point.”

Academy Manager, Bobby Hassell, added: “Tomas has not been in any system, which we quite enjoy when we’re getting him in because he’s been untapped and uncoached. He’s got lots of potential; he’s been on trial for 12 weeks from the end of last season and were recommended to sign him and he’s done really well since he came back in for pre-season.

“He’s an attacking player, he’s quick in and around the box and can go off either foot with a great strike – he reminds me a bit of Jacob Butterfield, the way he strikes it. Tomas is a bit different to what we’ve got; he’s a creative forward compared to the other lads, who are a bit more robust, in behind. He’ll get in between the lines and go past players on either side and scores a lot of goals in training.

“He played two or three games last year and scored two in them and did well. He’s got a real chance in the next 12 months if he develops; physically, we need to work on him.

“Tomas is a Lithuanian under 21, so the likelihood is now that he’s signed for a professional club is that he’ll get a call-up for that again, so there’s a lot of potential there.”

Welcome to Oakwell, Tomas!

U23S BEATEN BY MILLWALL
https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2021/ ... -millwall/
22 September 2021

Our U23s suffered a 4-0 defeat in the Professional Development League against Millwall on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking after the game, Head Coach Martin Devaney gave his take on the defeat: “Moments in the game, in terms of us, we didn’t take our chances. In terms of them, in the moment, when they were on top, they scored the first one which was a good goal, poor defending by us, but it’s about players learning and developing. In those moments you’ve got to steady the ship and get through five, ten minutes. But then there was a quick penalty and before you know it you’re 2-0 down. It’s a tough task when you’re away, travelled down on the day to play Millwall.”

When asked where improvements could be made, Devaney replied: “Physicality. That desire to go and win your duels and as a collective group it just wasn’t there today. I know it’s difficult when a squad’s put together and a lot of the boys aren’t used to playing with each other at the moment, but like I’ve said to them, it’s your time, it’s your game time. You have to be fighting tooth and nail to try and get the shirts from the first team players, and today unfortunately as individuals and as a collective it wasn’t good enough. We did play well in spells, but in those spells when you’re dominating, you have to score and unfortunately we didn’t have that killer pass or that killer shot today to affect the goalkeeper, unfortunately they did.”

REDS XI: Trialist (GK), Hassan-Smith, Helliwell, Sraha, D Benson, Trialist, Thompson, Hondermarck (Kalinauskas, 64), Cole, Christie-Davies, Bremang (Trialist, 71).
Not used: Brown (GK), Lancaster, Sherlock.

U23S SUFFER DEFEAT IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE DERBY

28 September 2021

Our U23s fell to a 3-1 defeat against Sheffield United in the Professional Development League on Tuesday afternoon.

The early stages were relatively uneventful but eventually gave way to a hectic period, during which three goals were scored in the space of four minutes.

Sheffield United took the lead through Angelo Cappello, who steered home after latching onto a teasing cross from Leo Gaxha.

However, the Reds struck back almost instantly when a trialist drilled into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The visitors refused to be disheartened by the blow and restored their lead a minute later. Cappello met a cross from Andre Brooks and rifled beyond the Barnsley goalkeeper to clinch his second goal of the game.

Opportunities were at a premium for the remainder of the first half, but Barnsley almost drew level after a slick attacking move down the left flank. Rémy Vita released Tomas Kalinauskas and his low drive stung the palms of Blades stopper Marcus Dewhurst.

Sheffield United carved the Reds open on the stroke of half-time but Leo Gaxha dragged his effort wide from the left-hand side of the box.

HALF-TIME: Barnsley 1-2 Sheffield United

REDS XI: Trialist (GK), Helliwell, Vita, Sraha (C), D Benson (Hassan-Smith, 68), Trialist, Thompson, Hondermarck, Cole (Bremang, 84), Christie-Davies, Kalinauskas (Trialist, 45).

U23S BEATEN AT OAKWELL
https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2021/ ... n-oakwell/
8 November 2021

Martin Devaney’s U23 side fell short at Oakwell on Monday afternoon. In what was a first-half of limited chances, the Reds took the lead through a well worked move, finished by David Bremang. However, Hull City reacted after the break as a Will Jarvis double, including a 89th minute penalty, completed the Tigers’ comeback and condemned Barnsley to a disappointing defeat.

Following a quiet opening to proceedings, the U23 Professional Development League encounter sprung in to life when Kareem Hassan-Smith came close to finishing a flowing Barnsley attack. Jack Sherlock showed composure in the Hull City penalty area to withstand defensive pressure and lay-up the Bradford-born wing-back, however Hassan-Smith could only find the side netting with his effort.

From that moment, the Reds seemed to seize control of proceedings. Jason Sraha, wearing the captains armband, showed moments of real maturity, making crucial interceptions and starting attacks by stepping out of defence. Yet, it wasn’t until the 43rd minute that Martin Devaney’s side made the breakthrough.

With space to run, Will Hondermarck flew through the midfield, before spotting Tomas Kalinauskas' run. The Lithuanian U21 international managed to cut the ball back infield to David Bremang, who, from 12-yards out, fired the Reds in front with a smart first-time finish.

Just before the half-time whistle, claims of a Barnsley penalty were waved away by the officials. Kalinauskas jinked past a couple of Hull City defenders before seemingly being taken down at knee height from behind.

HALF-TIME: Barnsley 1 – 0 Hull City

Hull City restarted the encounter with real drive and purpose, immediately responding and putting the hosts on the backfoot. Will Jarvis cut in from the right, skipping past Jordan Helliwell and burying his strike into the bottom right corner.

Whilst this wasn’t a classic encounter, it was brightened by a couple of wonderful Jamie Pardington saves. The first came from a deflected McCauley Snelgrove free-kick, before a brilliant reaction prevented an unmarked Jarvis from doubling his and Hull’s tally.

After withstanding waves of pressure, Barnsley had a couple of opportunites of their own. The first notable effort of the second-half came through Will Hondermarck, who couldn’t fully connect to a wicked Hayden Pickard corner.

Substitute, Aiden Marsh, then made something out of nothing. Picking up possession deep inside Hull City territory, he whipped a menacing cross across the face of goal, but despite a despairing dive, David Bremang couldn’t make the necessary connection to see the ball home.

Half chances came and went for local lads, Hayden Pickard and Aiden Marsh, but with the game seemingly petering out, in the 89th minute, the visitors were awarded a penalty. A quick switch of play saw Jake Leake bearing down on goal. Just as the full-back shaped to shoot, he was adjuged to have been fouled by Hassan-Smith. Will Jarvis stepped up and settled the encounter from the spot.

FULL-TIME: Barnsley 1 – 2 Hull City

REDS XI: Pardington (GK), Hassan-Smith, Pickard, Benson (Daniel), Sraha, Helliwell, Kalinauskas, Hondermarck, Bremang, Christie-Davies, Sherlock.
Substitutes: Brown, Marsh, Lancaster, Nejman, Smith

U23S WIN AT PETERBOROUGH
https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2021/ ... erborough/

A second half strike from David Bremang secured victory for Martin Devaney’s young Reds against Peterborough United in the Professional Development League on Friday afternoon. It was a deserved win for our U23s, who created more than their hosts and could have added to their tally in a fine performance on the road.

The score remained goalless at the break, despite Barnsley having the better of the chances. However, shortly after the interval, Bremang received the ball inside the area and, on the swivel, finished past the Posh ‘keeper.

HALF-TIME: Peterborough United 0-0 Barnsley

Following his first start after returning from injury, Marsh was replaced by Tomas Kalinauskas at the interval.

Akin to the opening few minutes of the game, the Reds found themselves presented with an excellent opportunity to score, except this time it was converted.

The substitute Kalinauskas won the ball high in the Posh half and played it into the feet of Bremang in the box. The in-form striker created space and fired a ferocious strike into the top corner, giving Devaney’s side the lead in the first minute of the second half.

Driving through the midfield once again, Hondermarck played the ball into Bremang. The striker flicked it around the corner for Sherlock, whose effort from range went wide of the post just short of the hour mark.

Kalinauskas was then set through on goal on the counter-attack, with the forward racing down on goal and with only the ‘keeper to beat. The Posh shot stopper did enough to put off the Lithuanian youth international however and kept the Reds’ advantage to one goal.

The game began to open up in the latter stages, with Brown pulling off a stunning save from a long-range Peterborough effort shortly after.

Posh began to apply pressure on the Barnsley goal with the Reds still leading, and almost found a late equaliser after a header from a corner nearly found its way into the back of the net.

However, our youngsters held strong for the remainder of the match and saw out their one goal lead resolutely.

FULL-TIME: Peterborough United 0-1 Barnsley

REDS XI: Brown (GK), Helliwell, Hassan-Smith, D Benson, Sraha, Lancaster, Sherlock, Ackroyd, Bremang, Hondermarck, Marsh.
Subs: Pickard, T Chapman, Nejman, Kalinauskas, Smith.

DEVANEY PLEASED WITH ‘COLLECTIVE’ U23S WIN
https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2021/ ... erborough/

“We worked really hard the last two to three weeks on trying to dominate the ball in possession, creating more passing angles,” he began. “I thought in terms of playing out from the back and playing through the thirds, we did really good. I saw an interchange in position in the midfielders and the forwards. We were a threat most of the game; we probably should have won the game more comfortably.”

Bremang got the winner for Barnsley as he collected Tomas Kalinauskas’ pass before swivelling and firing high into the net.

That’s three goals in as many games for the young attacker, who arrived at Oakwell from Coventry City this summer, and Devaney believes this run of form should provide Bremang with plenty of belief moving forward.

This result also provided the U23s with their first clean sheet of the season, which was down to the team’s performance as a whole according to Devaney.

“As a collective from the front to the midfielders, to the defenders they all put a shift in and we talked about that at the end,” he praised. “We looked like a real team, as a collective, worked tirelessly for one another, denied them to very few shots on goal, and in the last ten minutes, like any game where you’re winning 1-0, we had to defend well and we did do.”

https://www.facebook.com/AnglijosPremie ... 7427826464

Be to, Tomas savo „Facebook“ paskyroje teigė, jog yra dėkingas visiems, kurie juo tikėjo, suteikė galimybę tapti naujosios komandos dalimi.
