Three significant events in less than a month! Striker Jakub Sylvestr (32) first raised the Lithuanian Cup over his head. Then his son Danilo was born in Banská Bystrica. The very next day, he celebrated his arrival in the world with a goal and the sealing of the championship title for Žalgiris Vilnius. He added two more trophies to his collection in addition to titles or cup triumphs with Slovan Bratislava, the Dinamo Zagreb club or the Israeli team Bnei Yehuda.
The footballer, who has replaced 14 clubs in six countries during his career, is in seventh heaven. After half a year of experience in the Indian FC Chennai, he headed north, where he signed for the Lithuanian champion for one season. As he says, it was a good decision. He competed in 35 league matches and also played in European cups.
“We have a double, which is a success. He therefore considers the stop in Žalgiris to be a success. To my complete satisfaction, I missed more frequent stays on the lawns. I played many matches only as a substitute player. It could have been better, ” Jakub admitted for Nový Čas.
The news for him was that he played most of the matches on artificial grass.
“It has up to six out of ten teams. Especially because of the weather. It is very cold here in March at the beginning of the season and in its finish in November. It often rains or snows and the terrain with natural grass is very bad. We also played a few matches in the indoor hall in March. I’m used to it. ”
Sylvester played in Slovakia in only three clubs – in Banská Bystrica, Slovan and Petržalka. He has been traveling abroad for the last 11 years. He was in Croatia, Germany, Denmark, Israel, India and now in Lithuania. “I’m a globetrotter. However, after the age of 30, clubs do not want to offer longer contracts. At least I saw and experienced a lot.”
He doesn’t know where he will land in the winter, but he doesn’t want to go home yet. “I do not rule out that I will stay in Žalgiris, but the owner has not talked to the players about the new season yet. Now I mainly want to rest. We have been pulling non-stop since March.“
New Year’s Eve: I enjoy little Danila
While Jakub finished a successful season in Vilnius, his wife Soňa brought his son Danila to the world in the Banská Bystrica hospital. “After winning two club trophies, I am threefold. Too bad I couldn’t be in childbirth. “ The origin of the name comes from Hebrew.
