The Direction Nationale du Controle de Gestion (DNCG, the body responsible for overseeing the finances of French football clubs) confirmed via the Ligue de Football Professionnel (French football’s governing body) that Lyon would be relegated [to Ligue 2] but no action would be taken against Monaco, Nantes and Paris FC.

Lyon confirmed in an official statement that they will appeal the “incomprehensible decision.”

The DNCG determined in July 2024 that Bordeaux be relegated two divisions to the fourth tier, losing their professional status, due to their financial situation. The previous year, Sochaux were administratively relegated to the third tier. Nancy successfully appealed against the DNCG’s decision to relegate the club two divisions to the fifth tier in 2023.

UEFA has announced that it has postponed its assessment of the case involving Crystal Palace and Lyon, while confirming that another club has been excluded from European competitions for breaching rules on multiple club ownership.

"This postponement is linked to Olympique Lyonnais' compliance with the agreement signed with the First Chamber of Club Financial Control (CFCB), for the violation of financial viability criteria. Lyon ensured their place in Ligue 1 for the coming season, winning their appeal over relegation imposed upon them by the body that oversees the finances of French football teams.

While Lyon’s appeal win is an undisputed win for the French club, Turner is still waiting for official confirmation of his move from Nottingham Forest to the Groupama stadium. Last month The Athletic reported that the two clubs have agreed a fee of €8 million (£6.74m) for the 31-year-old, who made just four appearances while spending the season on loan with Palace.

Turner was part of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad at the Gold Cup but did not play a minute, with New York City FC’s Matt Freese selected ahead of him throughout. Turner had started, and struggled, in the U.S.’s 4-0 friendly defeat to Switzerland prior to the tournament.

American goalkeeper Matt Turner will return to the New England Revolution on loan from French Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais, commonly known as Lyon, through June 30, 2026, with an option to purchase. Turner will be a Designated Player on New England’s roster for the remainder of the 2025 MLS season and will be a TAM-eligible player in 2026.

At the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, Turner posted five shutouts in six starts, taking home Golden Glove and Best XI honors.
