Before the summer transition window opens, the football club "Liepāja" managed to sort out relations with four Argentine academies, which demanded compensation for the training of Leonel Strumia and Martin Mercau, in total about a quarter of a million euros, confirms the club's director David Janson. Consequently, the ban on signing new players has been officially lifted.

According to reports, Argentina's "Club Atletico 9 de Julio" and "Club Atletico Ricardo Gutierrez" claimed compensation for coaching Leonel Strumia, while Martin Mercau's was claimed by "Club Lautaro Roncedo" and "Club Banda Norte".

Negotiations and litigation with these organisations lasted since 2015 and stretched all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. It ruled in favor of the academies' claim, which has now been satisfied.

In Latvian sport, in general, two sports – basketball and football – have been the ones that have been able to raise the most money for professional sports (teams). For example, there was a lot of money in basketball before the big financial crisis: 2007 was the peak for both the Latvian economy and Latvian basketball. In 2007, the basketball club "Ventspils" had the largest expenses in its history – about two and a half million euros (it should be noted that the value of money in 2005 and 2022 is not the same, taking into account inflation). The budget of BK Ventspils from 2001 to 2019 was over the amount of one million euros (a big drop in 2020 – from 1.35 to 0.54 million euros or -60%; this was affected by the inclusion of the owner in the US sanctions, which also affected the operation of the port), and in 2022 it was only slightly over 400 thousand euros. In 2007 and 2008, "ASK Rīga" operated with expenses of 3.5 million euros, but quickly the bubble burst. At the moment, the wealthiest basketball team is "VEF Rīga", but the best years for this club are also behind us – since 2012, when about 3.5 million euros were spent, the trend of expenses is downwards. Also, basketball is the only sport in which there is a professional women's team. In 2018, the expenses of "TTT-Riga" amounted to 862 thousand euros, which is also the highest point (in 2022 - 397 thousand euros).

In hockey, in general, there is even less money, for example, the hockey club "Zemgale" in 2022 spent 412 thousand euros, not to mention other teams, but in this sport there was a wealthy (and so far richest) team of Latvian scale, which did not participate in the Latvian championship (the expenses of this team in several years amounted to more than 10 million euros).

The Latvian Football Federation (LFF) has no information about the football club blamed for the tax evasion and its official who has been charged, LFF president Vadim Lyashenko told the Delfi portal.

In recent days, Latvian football has again intervened in a number of unpleasant cases. On Saturday, in one of the games of the Latvian First League, there were suspicions of unfair play of "Dinamo Riga" and influence on the result of the match, while in the second league in one of the matches in the stands of Salaspils stadium, the fan sang the anthem of the aggressor country Russia. Meanwhile, on Monday, the State Revenue Service (SRS) announced that an official of a Latvian football club had been charged with tax evasion.

After the suspicious game of Dinamo Riga and the incident in Salaspils, the LFF stated in a statement that there is "zero tolerance for any kind of integrity violations, so any violations found will be assessed with the strictest severity in order to protect football from persons who undermine the principles of the football game".

On October 9, the management of Dinamo Riga football club informed the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) about the withdrawal from further participation in this season's "Optibet" Future League championship.

In its submission, the club bases its decision on suspicions of manipulation of the results of games with the involvement of "Dinamo Riga" players. The club says it will do everything in its power to help LFF with its investigation.

According to the rules of the championship, the team is credited with losses in the remaining games with a score of 0:3.

As reported, LFF with partners and responsible institutions has launched an internal investigation in connection with the Future League game between FK "Dinamo Rīga" and FK "Tukums 2000-2"/TSS. "Dynamo" after the first half was in the lead with 3:0, but in the continuation of the game did not make a single shot and lost with 3:4.

"Already during the game, we were informed about the possible manipulation of the results of the game and, accordingly, all responsible institutions immediately began to work in this direction." - Vadims Lasenko.
