The Eagle Football group led by embattled US businessman John Textor reported $1.2 billion-plus debts, according to confidential documents seen by Telegraph Sport. The document seen by Telegraph Sport reveals that Eagle told investors it has £880 million of debt, ahead of the sale of the Palace stake for around £155 million. The schedule of liabilities says that Eagle owes $493 million alone to the United States giant Ares Capital in three tranches. Of that, $159 million is subject to a 19.4 per cent interest rate, with a $3 million loan running at 22 per cent. The filing runs up until June 2024. With interest, it is estimated total debts will have increased since.
Eagle Football had $504 million of liabilities specific to the group, according to the document. In addition, Lyon’s controlling company, OL Groupe, has $452 million of debt. Of the latter, around $346 million is secured against the club’s stadium, the 59,000-capacity Groupama Stadium.<>The Eagle document records around $167 million of debt resting with Eagle’s Brazilian club Botafogo.
